Rojin Kabaiş's phone password could not be cracked

In the case regarding the disappearance and subsequent discovery of the body of Rojin Kabaiş, a first-year student at the Van Yüzüncü Yıl University Faculty of Education, attention had turned to Kabaiş's mobile phone. Kabaiş, who had not been heard from after leaving her dormitory on September 27, 2023, was found dead two weeks later on the shores of the Mollakasım neighborhood of Lake Van.

In the report prepared by the Council of Forensic Medicine during the investigation process, it was stated that DNA samples belonging to two different individuals were detected on Kabaiş's body. To clarify the incident, DNA analyses were conducted on approximately 195 people; these individuals included university and dormitory staff.

One of the most important pieces of evidence scrutinized during this process was Rojin Kabaiş's mobile phone. As the phone's lock could not be broken, the device was sent to Spain three months ago for advanced technical examination.

The Van Bar Association made a statement regarding the current status of the phone.

The statement included the following: "It is known that in the Rojin Kabaiş case, the mobile phone, which could not be opened until now, was sent to Spain for the purpose of determining its contents, obtaining images, and conducting a technical examination. However, the latest report received states that full access to the device could not be achieved and that only a partial examination could be performed. It is of great importance that digital data be examined in a complete and verifiable manner in order to reveal the material truth. We respectfully inform the public that we are and will continue to be followers of the process to ensure it is conducted in a transparent and effective manner."

In the investigation, there are points that remain mysterious due to the fact that the digital data could not be fully decrypted. It is reported that technical work regarding the evidence on hand, primarily the phone, is continuing in order to clarify all aspects of the incident.
