Sarıgül’s first statement following detention orders

It has been reported that Erzincan MP Mustafa Sarıgül’s ex-wife Aylin Kotil, his son Ömer Sarıgül, and journalist Murat Ağırel were taken into custody in the morning hours. It was also stated that a detention order has been issued for Sarıgül’s other son, Emir Sarıgül.

It was reported that the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office announced that the allegations regarding Mustafa Sarıgül would be forwarded to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. Following these developments, Sarıgül stated that the investigation stems from a commercial dispute.

In his statement, Sarıgül said, “My family members are being questioned as part of an initiated investigation. The process is still ongoing. The matter is a commercial business dispute.”

Arguing that the opposing party’s allegations are untrue, Sarıgül stated that the source and authenticity of the documents are questionable. Expressing that his family members will share all information and documents within the scope of the investigation with the authorities, Sarıgül requested that the presumption of innocence be respected.

Journalist Timur Soykan, meanwhile, reported that Murat Ağırel had investigated the allegations regarding the Sarıgül family before reporting on them, had spoken with the family’s lawyer, and had postponed publishing the story because he did not find the documents in his possession sufficient.
