Shocking discovery: Real estate deposit fraud in Esenyurt

Ahmet Adıtepe, who wanted to buy a house for his disabled son in Esenyurt, Istanbul, claims he has been victimized over a 25,000 TL deposit payment. According to Adıtepe's allegations, the amount on the deposit receipt he signed for the house he decided not to purchase was later altered and increased to 425,000 TL.

Adıtepe explained that he contacted a real estate agent after seeing an online listing for a house, and was told the apartment was 140 square meters. After liking the house, he paid a 25,000 TL deposit, but stated that an appraisal revealed the apartment was actually about 80-85 square meters.

Stating that he decided not to buy the house upon learning this information, Adıtepe alleged that the document he signed originally stated 25,000 TL, but that a "4" was later added to the front of the figure to make it appear as 425,000 TL. Adıtepe also claimed that the real estate agent told him, "Don't back out, I will take more than this from you."

Enforcement proceedings for 425,000 TL were initiated against Adıtepe based on the document in question. Describing the financial burden he faced, Adıtepe said, "I paid it to the Büyükçekmece Enforcement Office. I absolutely could not object because there was no time. The 25,000 lira ended up costing me 875,000 lira with loans, excluding my attorney fees."

A legal process has been initiated following the incident. Adıtepe's lawyer, Ceylan Öztürk, stated that they have filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office alleging that the document was altered. Öztürk said they have requested that the document be examined by a graphology expert.

While it is stated that the addition to the document was detected during the expert examination, how the change was made and who is responsible will be clarified during the judicial process.
