Six-week action plan from TÜRK-İŞ: General strike on the horizon

Wage negotiations that have been ongoing since January have ended in a stalemate between the Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (TÜRK-İŞ) and the government.

The government's offer of a 16 percent raise for the first six months and 8 percent for the second six months has led TÜRK-İŞ to decide on a course of action.

6 ACTIONS WILL CULMINATE IN A STRIKE

TÜRK-İŞ President Ergün Atalay announced on June 19 that they had decided to take action. However, the details and dates of these actions have only just been clarified.

Workers affiliated with TÜRK-İŞ will begin their protests on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, by gathering within 500 meters of their workplaces. That same week, on Thursday, June 26, they will exercise their right not to work until noon at their workplaces. The third action will continue on Tuesday, July 1, with press statements to be held in city centers.

The fourth action will take place on Thursday, July 3, in front of AKP provincial buildings in all 81 provinces. In the fifth action, on Tuesday, July 8, workers will not leave their workplaces at the end of their shifts and will remain there until morning. Finally, a one-day work stoppage will be held on Thursday, July 17. Economist Aziz Çelik states that this action plan is equivalent to TÜRK-İŞ going on a general strike.
