Ümit Karan reveals his monthly income in court case
Appearing before a judge for the first time in a high criminal court, former national football player Ümit Karan denied drug trafficking charges while revealing that his monthly income is 700 thousand liras. Karan claimed that his ex-girlfriend made the accusations out of revenge. He was released with a travel ban.
Former football player Ümit Karan's statements during the first hearing of the case opened against him for "drug or stimulant trafficking or supply" drew attention. In the hearing held at the 41st High Criminal Court, which he attended while in custody, Karan stated that the accusations were baseless. The prosecution requested a prison sentence of no less than 10 years for Karan.
During the identity verification process, Karan's statement regarding his economic status, in which he declared a monthly income of 700 thousand liras, was entered into the court records. The former national football player claimed that personal disputes with his ex-girlfriend lay behind the events. Denying all the allegations in the case file, he drew attention to his ex-girlfriend, Şule Naz Öztürk, in the continuation of his remarks.
In his defense, Karan used the following expressions: “The only reason I am here is the statements of my ex-girlfriend, Şule Naz Öztürk. After we broke up, she constantly tried to reach me by using my close circle. I blocked her everywhere. Finally, she made this slander to take revenge on me. She also slandered other friends of mine whom I introduced to her. Her drug test came back positive, and she said she had met with me 7 months ago. If that were the case, her test would not have come back positive.”
Stating that the detention process he experienced negatively affected his mental health, Ümit Karan shared that he had health problems during this period and was hospitalized five times. He emphasized that he would be more careful in the future to avoid encountering such troublesome situations again.
Following the defenses and witness testimonies, the court panel decided to release Ümit Karan on the condition of a travel ban.
