US Department of Justice refuses to submit additional documents in Epstein case to court

The US Department of Justice has refused to submit certain additional information requested by the court regarding the Jeffrey Epstein case. The Department claimed that the documents in question contain sensitive information belonging to victims and that some sections were redacted due to legal requirements.

According to reports in the US press, the Department of Justice did not share the additional documents requested by the court from the files of billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, who was found dead in prison while being tried on charges of establishing a child sex trafficking ring.

US Deputy Assistant Attorney General Stanley Woodward requested that the deadline set by the court for the submission of the documents be extended by 60 days. Woodward also requested that this deadline be considered completely void if the Department's justifications for withholding the documents are accepted.

Woodward stated that redactions were applied to some emails to protect the names of the victims. Arguing that the correspondence could "appear disturbing at first glance" if taken out of context, Woodward opposed the disclosure of the documents.

The Department official claimed that documents regarding interview notes of a woman who made assault allegations against US President Donald Trump were considered to be a repetition of previously typed reports.
