15-million-year-old fish fossil discovered in Adıyaman!
A farmer walking in Adıyaman has discovered a 15-million-year-old fish fossil dating back to the Middle Miocene Epoch.
A farmer living in the village of Oluklu in the Besni district of Adıyaman discovered a rock with a unique structure while walking in a rural area and handed it over to the Adıyaman Museum Directorate.
Upon their initial examination of the rock, museum directorate teams determined that it was a fish fossil dating back to the Middle Miocene Epoch. In a statement, Museum Director Mehmet Alkan noted that fish fossils are generally found in lake and stream sediments.
Alkan stated, "The fish fossil on the rock is approximately 8 centimeters long, and its capillaries and fins are clearly visible. This fossil dates back approximately 15 million years and is considered a very significant discovery. In the future, this fossil will be put on display in our museum for visitors to see."
