15,000 people visited Selimiye Mosque during the holiday

Selimiye Mosque, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, became a focal point for visitors during the 9-day holiday.

Visitors who chose Edirne for their cultural and faith tourism route during the holiday toured the city's historical and tourist sites, primarily Selimiye.

Edirne Mufti Hasan Başoğlu stated that Selimiye, a center for faith tourism, experienced an influx of visitors during the holiday.

Expressing that they had a busy holiday despite some parts of the mosque being closed to visitors due to restoration, Başoğlu noted that a large number of domestic and foreign visitors came to the mosque.

Stating that Selimiye is the first thing that comes to mind when Edirne is mentioned, Başoğlu said the following:

"Citizens showed great interest in Selimiye during the holiday. Visitors who took advantage of the holiday toured our city's cultural sites and mosques. Those who preferred to spend their holidays abroad stopped by our mosque while passing through our border city of Edirne. Despite being under restoration, nearly 15,000 visitors came to Selimiye.

Due to the restoration, our citizens have requests from us. We are trying to arrange ablution areas and prayer spaces according to these requests. The mosque is overflowing, especially during Friday prayers."
