A sad day for Ferda Anıl Yarkın

Composer Kamuran Yarkın, father of Ferda Anıl Yarkın, who created some of the most important pop music songs of the 90s, has passed away at the age of 86.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced the sad news.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism published a condolence message regarding Yarkın's passing on its social media account, stating, "We wish God's mercy upon Kamuran Yarkın, one of the master composers of Turkish art music, and extend our condolences to his family and our entire arts community. May he rest in peace."

Yarkın's funeral will be held today following the noon prayer at the Sahrayı Cedid Mosque in Istanbul, where he will be laid to rest.

WHO IS KAMURAN YARKIN?

The artist was born on January 28, 1938, in Fatih, Istanbul. Growing up accompanied by his mother's oud melodies, Yarkın began taking lessons from Şuayb Erkutlu in 1945.

Between 1954 and 1957, Yarkın took tanbur lessons from Colonel Süleyman Bey and Major İlhan Bey. Having written his first composition in 1951, Yarkın joined the Üsküdar Music Society after 1962 and produced various compositions throughout his artistic career.
