A sad day for presenter Saba Tümer

Presenter Saba Tümer's father, Yalçın Tümer, has passed away. Journalist Adem Metan announced the sad news in a post on his X account.

In his post, Metan stated that Saba Tümer had been dealing with her father's health issues for a long time and offered his condolences to the Tümer family.

Yalçın Tümer's name had previously come to the fore with an incident that Saba Tümer recounted during her appearance on the Katarsis program. Tümer had shared a memory from her childhood about the time the plane her father was on was hijacked.

On the program, Saba Tümer said, "A plane my father was on was hijacked by pirates. I was in the first year of middle school at the time," adding that the incident received extensive media coverage and that it was during this process that she first encountered newspapers.

In the incident that took place on April 15, 1983, the "Ankara" plane, which was operating the Istanbul-Izmir flight, was hijacked to Athens with 107 passengers on board. It was announced that the person who hijacked the plane was Mahmut Kalkan; it was reported that the passengers and crew were rescued unharmed.

Born in Izmir on December 5, 1970, Saba Tümer graduated from the Department of Journalism at Ege University's Faculty of Communication. Tümer, who began her television career at local channels in Izmir, later hosted news and talk shows on channels such as NTV, Show TV, Habertürk, CNN Türk, and TV8.
