According to TurkStat data, women live longer than men

According to the report published by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), women live 5.3 years longer than men. The report, which also presents remarkable data in the fields of education and employment, highlights the position of women in society.

According to TurkStat data, women live longer than men

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) has shared its "Women in Statistics, 2024" report, prepared for International Women's Day on March 8, with the public. According to the report, women in Turkey live an average of 5.3 years longer than men. While life expectancy at birth for the 2021-2023 period was determined to be 80 years for women, this figure was recorded as 74.7 years for men.

Women's education levels have also increased over the years. In 2023, the average duration of schooling for women aged 25 and over was measured at 8.6 years. The proportion of women who are higher education graduates reached 22.7 percent. As education levels rise, the labor force participation rate of women also increases; the labor force participation rate for women with a higher education degree was determined to be 68.9 percent.

In the field of employment, the rate for women remains behind that of men. In 2023, the employment rate for women was 31.3 percent, while this rate was 65.7 percent for men. While the part-time employment rate for women was determined to be 16.1 percent, this rate remained at 7.3 percent for men.

35.9 PERCENT OF WOMEN FELT UNSAFE WALKING ALONE AT NIGHT

The challenges women face in social life were also included in the report. In 2024, 35.9 percent of women stated that they felt unsafe while walking alone at night. The internet usage rate among women was recorded at 85.4 percent.

The report also emphasized that as women's education levels rise, their labor force participation rates increase, yet their employment rates remain behind those of men. The rise in the proportion of female ambassadors to 26.9 percent in 2024 shows that women are also taking a more prominent role in the field of diplomacy.
