After Bursa and Ankara, bread prices have increased in İzmir too!
Kemal Sırtı, President of the İzmir Chamber of Bakers, announced that the price of a 200-gram loaf of bread, which was sold for 10 liras before the new year, has been increased due to rising costs of raw materials.
Following the price hikes after the new year, the price of bread has also increased. News of bread price hikes had recently come from Bursa and Ankara. Kemal Sırtı, President of the İzmir Chamber of Bakers, announced in a statement that bread prices have also increased in İzmir.
'WE WERE FORCED TO INCREASE THE PRICE'
Making a statement on the subject, İzmir Chamber of Bakers President Kemal Sırtı said that they were forced to increase prices in the face of rising costs for the raw materials used in bread production.
HOW MUCH IS THE 200-GRAM LOAF NOW?
Stating that the price of a 200-gram loaf of bread has risen from 10 liras to 12.5 TL, Sırtı said, “When we talk about bread inputs, one should not only think of flour and yeast. Along with side expenses such as fuel, our rents, the wages of the people we employ, and social security premiums, there are 41 different cost inputs for bread. The average increase in our inputs is 50 percent.

Despite this, in order to support the social consensus in İzmir and considering our people experiencing economic difficulties, we implemented a 25 percent price increase. We avoided price increases on bread as much as possible, but at this point, we had to reflect the unsustainable increase in bread inputs onto bread prices to some extent.
When determining the price of bread, we are meticulous and act in coordination with representatives from the İzmir Chamber of Commerce, EBSO, and the İzmir Commodity Exchange,” he said.
