Allegations of 'theft' against Okan Karacan

The incident occurred on February 27, 2026, on Darülaceze Street in the Merkez neighborhood of Şişli. According to the information obtained, an individual named E.Ş.A. went to the Şişli Police Station on March 2 to file a complaint, alleging that their laptop was stolen during a program held at the event venue, that there was camera footage of the incident, and that the person who stole the computer was Okan Karacan.

"He came with three people and assaulted me"

Acting on the report, teams from the Şişli District Police Department meticulously examined the security cameras and identified the person who stole the computer as Okan Karacan. In his statement as a suspect regarding the incident, Okan Karacan claimed, "I took the computer by mistake. On March 1, an individual named E.Ş.A. came with three other people and assaulted me. They kidnapped me, put me in the trunk of a vehicle, and hit me on the head with the grip of a gun five times there."

His mother claimed Karacan was not taken out of the house and was not assaulted

Investigating Okan Karacan's claims, the Şişli District Police Department teams took a statement from Karacan's mother, I.K. In her statement, it was learned that mother I.K. said her son came home with a computer after attending an iftar program on the day of the incident, that the computer was a gift to him, and that a few days later, while her son was sleeping in his room, the doorbell rang, and Okan Karacan told her, "They have come to get the computer, give it to the person who arrived." Karacan's mother stated that she gave the computer to the person at the door, that her son Karacan never left his room and did not encounter the person who arrived, and that he was not forcibly taken out of the house by anyone and was not assaulted. She further claimed that her son has a psychological condition and uses medication, but has been exhibiting erratic behavior because he stopped taking his medication regularly for some time.

Okan Karacan was taken into custody on charges of "theft in public" and was referred to the courthouse on March 7. Karacan was released after being referred to the courthouse.
