Allegedly forced his ex-girlfriend to record a video: Verdict in Batuhan Karacakaya's 'blackmail' case!

A verdict has been reached in the trial of actor Batuhan Karacakaya, who was alleged to have insisted 'you will record a video for me' and forced his ex-girlfriend Ayşe Fatma Aslanpay to read a note he had written while recording a video in Şişli on March 22, 2023.

At the Istanbul 19th Criminal Court of First Instance, the defendant, Batuhan Karacakaya, who was being tried without arrest, did not attend the hearing. Karacakaya was represented by his lawyer at the hearing.

During the hearing, the defendant's lawyer stated they had nothing further to add and requested the court to acquit his client, Karacakaya.

'LACK OF EVIDENCE'

Announcing its verdict, the court ruled for the acquittal of defendant Batuhan Karacakaya on the grounds that no definitive and convincing evidence could be obtained to prove he committed the crime of 'blackmail'.

INDICTMENT

The indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated that the complainant, Ayşe Fatma Aslanpay, and the suspect, Batuhan Karacakaya, had previously been in a romantic relationship. It was noted that one day before the incident, Karacakaya shared a song on a music app with the lyrics, "I'm waiting, come, didn't you miss me, I couldn't say come back," and that Aslanpay went to the suspect's house, where the suspect received a message from a fake account.

The indictment stated that the message read, "Batuhan, this video reminds you of February 15th, it's too late now, I will share this with the tabloids." It further noted that upon receiving this, Karacakaya called a friend and said, "Ayşe had a video, I beat this woman, I'm confessing in the video, I just got a message from an account."

The indictment further detailed that Karacakaya then turned to Aslanpay and said, "You spread this video to someone, you will find a solution to this." It was reported that Aslanpay wanted to leave the house, but Karacakaya insisted, "You will record a video for me," and forced her to record a video by reading a note he had written.

The indictment noted that in the video in question, Aslanpay said, "I am Ayşe Aslanpay, today is February 16th. On February 14th, my boyfriend and I had a minor argument and we hurt each other. The next day, because we weren't talking, I put makeup on my face to look like bruises and sent him a photo so he would feel guilty. He sent me a video because he wanted to meet with me, and I sent that video to a friend. Because we argued with my friend, I am recording this video thinking that they might spread that video. This video is being recorded solely because of the makeup I applied to my own face; there was no violence involved." The indictment also stated that Aslanpay's facial expressions during the recording indicated she was being forced to make the statement.

The indictment, which stated that the suspect had an interest in the incident mentioned in the messages and that he had forced the complainant to record a video, requested that the suspect, Batuhan Karacakaya, be sentenced to 1 to 3 years in prison for the crime of 'blackmail'.
