Anamur's Fritillaria to be placed under protection!

Mersin Anamur District Governor Bilal Bozdemir held a meeting at his office to discuss placing the Fritillaria species, which was introduced to the literature by Geography Teacher Nevzat Çağlar after he discovered it in Anamur, under protection. Çağlar was invited to the meeting, which was also attended by District Director of National Education İlyas Mercan, District Director of Agriculture and Forestry Hasan Bostan, and Nature Conservation and National Parks Chief Turgut Muz.

During the meeting, District Governor Bozdemir received information about the Fritillaria from Geography Teacher Nevzat Çağlar. Çağlar stated that he discovered a new Fritillaria species last year at an altitude of 1,750 meters in the Yaylacık locality of the Anamur Evci area plateau, and that this species was introduced to the scientific world as the "Anamur Tulip." Emphasizing that this discovery is significant for the region's biodiversity, District Governor Bozdemir announced that they would determine a roadmap for the plant's protection.

In his statement, Bozdemir said, "This endemic Fritillaria species, discovered by our geography teacher Nevzat Çağlar in the Evci area plateau of Anamur district, is of great importance for the region's biodiversity. Necessary steps will be taken to introduce this discovery to the scientific world and place it under protection. We congratulate him and wish him continued success."

During the meeting, District Governor Bozdemir evaluated the processes to be followed and the measures to be taken for the introduction and protection of the Anamur Tulip in the scientific world, and congratulated geography teacher Nevzat Çağlar, wishing him continued success.

TO BE PLACED UNDER PROTECTION BY IUCN

Nature Conservation and National Parks Chief Turgut Muz stated that a Species Conservation Action Plan would be proposed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks for the protection of the Anamur Fritillaria. Muz said that a commission would subsequently be formed for the action plan and that the protection method would be determined by this commission. If the Anamur Tulip is registered in the world literature, it will be placed under protection by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
