Armağan Çağlayan and animal rights activists await a solution from the AKP

Led by groups including the Altınova Nature Initiative, the Ayvalık Cultural and Natural Heritage Initiative, and the Children of the Dump, animal rights activists held a rally at Ayvalık Republic Square.

Speaking at the rally, famous television personality Armağan Çağlayan stated that he had spoken on the phone with AKP Group Deputy Chairman Bahadır Yenişehirlioğlu two days ago, saying, "He requested a report for solution proposals. We sent this report to him yesterday. They received many opinions from us. These opinions will be collected in a folder. The ones deemed suitable among these opinions will be included in the draft legislative proposal. Mr. Bahadır said that there is currently no legislative proposal regarding stray animals on the table. As I understand it, the proposal that went to the Turkish Grand National Assembly and has been occupying the public agenda belongs to 3 HÜDA PAR deputies."

"WE KNOW THEM"

Stating that he had made a proposal for the establishment of commissions in provinces and districts, Çağlayan said, "I recommended that these commissions include the Veterinary Affairs Directorate, representatives of NGOs, the headman of each neighborhood, and a person living in that neighborhood who knows the stray animals of that neighborhood. Because we, as residents of our own neighborhood, know the animals living there. When someone comes and says, 'This one is aggressive,' only the neighborhood residents know that the animal is not aggressive. I suggested that this commission manage the work. I hope that we will reach a civilized solution, as in all European countries, without resorting to euthanasia," he said.
