Artist and academic Gülçin Aksoy has passed away
Artist and academic Gülçin Aksoy suffered a heart attack at her home in Istanbul last night. Aksoy, who was taken under treatment, passed away in the early hours of the morning.
Gülçin Aksoy, who served as an academic at MSGSÜ, has passed away at the age of 59.
Aksoy, who suffered a heart attack last night, had been taken under treatment at a private hospital in Istanbul.
It was reported that the artist passed away this morning.
WHO IS GÜLÇİN AKSOY?
Born in 1965, Gülçin Aksoy completed her master's and proficiency in art education at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. Since 1993, she had been working as a faculty member in the Painting Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and was running the "Carpet Workshop."
The artist had been actively producing art since the early 1990s. Alongside her individual works, she took part in many collaborative projects such as the ‘Atılkunst’ collective.
She held solo exhibitions in Istanbul and Munich and participated in numerous exhibitions both domestically and internationally.
She positioned her artistic production on learning and creating together, without separating it from her identity as an educator.
Some of the other art events she participated in include: ‘Mobilising Memory’ in Vienna, the 4th Çanakkale Biennial, ‘Trading Station’ in Liverpool, the 1st Klohausen Biennial in Munich, ‘City Scale’ in Munich-Istanbul, the ‘1st Istanbul Pedestrian Exhibitions,’ and ‘60 Years 60 Artists.’ Exhibitions such as ‘Yerli Malı’ (Domestic Goods), ‘Aileye Mahsustur’ (For the Family), and ‘Yurttan Sesler’ (Voices from the Homeland), where she was also part of the founding exhibition team, can be cited as examples.
