Artist Orhan Aydın, who lost his daughter Eylem Şafak Aydın in the earthquake: 'The dead are left with their death'

Theater and cinema artist Orhan Aydın lost his daughter Eylem Şafak Aydın, who remained under the rubble in Hatay, one of the cities struck by the earthquake last year.

Aydın made statements on the anniversary of his daughter Eylem Şafak Aydın Yetiş's death.

THEY ARE SAYING 'BE LEFT WITH YOUR DEATH'

Reproaching the authorities, Aydın said, "They are telling the humanity still struggling in tents and makeshift shacks called containers, 'be left with your death,' they are saying 'be silent or we will silence you,'" and added:

"When will you become the conscience of our lost lives, when? The dead are left with their death..."

WHO IS ORHAN AYDIN?

Turkish theater actor, performer, and writer Orhan Aydın was born on March 22, 1947.

He began his theater career at the Ankara Yenimahalle People's House (Halkevi). To date, he has participated as an actor and/or director in nearly 100 plays in theaters such as the Ankara People's Theater, Çağdaş Sahne, Öncü Sahne, Ankara Unity Theater, Ali Hürol Theater, Ali Poyrazoğlu Theater, Gülriz Sururi-Engin Cezzar Theater, New Theater, Nâzım Players, and Tiyatroist.

He has dozens of published articles on the field of theater. He has also acted in many motion pictures and television productions. He is originally from Şavşat, Artvin.

Orhan Aydın's theater life began in his final year of middle school and continued for a long time at the Ankara People's Houses.

In 1976, he won first place in an inter-school theater competition in Istanbul with a play he wrote and directed himself. Drawing attention with this success, Orhan Aydın produced children's hour programs at TRT Istanbul Children's Radio between 1976 and 1978. Following these highly acclaimed programs, he took part in many programs on TRT.

In 1980, he began to be recognized by wider audiences with the character 'Kavruk Hasan' in the program titled '5 Dakika' (5 Minutes) broadcast on TRT.

In 1992, he played the role of a judge in the feature film 'Kurşun Adres Sormaz' (The Bullet Doesn't Ask for an Address), produced by Selim Soydan, directed by Bilge Olgaç, and starring Aytaç Arman, Halil Ergün, Levent Ülgen, and Şerif Sezer.

A member of the TKP (Communist Party of Turkey), Orhan Aydın was an independent parliamentary candidate for Istanbul's 2nd district in the June 24, 2018 general elections.

Orhan Aydın's daughter, Eylem Şafak Aydın, was caught in the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes on February 6, 2023, in Hatay and lost her life.
