Artist Prof. Dr. Zafer Gençaydın has passed away
Master artist Prof. Dr. Zafer Gençaydın, who had been serving in the Painting Department of the Hacettepe University Faculty of Fine Arts since its establishment, has passed away at the age of 83.

Gençaydın's funeral will be held today in Ankara.
WHO IS ZAFER GENÇAYDIN?
Zafer Gençaydın was born in Ankara in 1941. He graduated from the Malatya-Akçadağ Teachers' School in 1959 and the Gazi Education Institute Painting Department in 1965. In 1971, he won the Ministry of National Education's specialization examination and completed his studies at the Berlin Hochschule der Künste in 1977 with the title of "Meisterschüler."
After returning to the country in 1978, he worked in the Painting Department of the Gazi Education Institute until 1983. Between 1980 and 1981, he taught courses on "Architecture and Color" at the Middle East Technical University Faculty of Architecture.
In 1983, he became a faculty member at the Hacettepe University Faculty of Fine Arts and was promoted to professor in 1992. He served as the Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts for two terms, between 1994-1997 and 2000-2003.
Since 1971, he has held over 30 solo exhibitions. He participated in numerous national and international group exhibitions. He has written many articles and given many lectures on art and art education.
He was named "Artist of the Year" by the Turkish Art Association in 1987 and 2005.
Zafer Gençaydın passed away on May 4, 2024.
