ATV censors the word 'period' in the film Bergen

The film 'Bergen', which tells the life story of singer Bergen—who was shot and killed by the man she was married to, Halis Serbest—and stars Farah Zeynep Abdullah alongside Erdal Beşikçioğlu, was released in 2022 and broke box office records.

According to a report in Cumhuriyet, after its theatrical run and release on Prime Video, Bergen aired on television for the first time yesterday on the ATV channel.

Users who had previously watched the film in theaters or on streaming platforms wrote on Twitter that some scenes had been censored. It was noted that the line "My period is late" was bleeped out and that a bathhouse scene was cut.

Farah Zeynep Abdullah, who brought Bergen to life, was initially surprised by the censorship criticism from users but later reacted to the censorship.

“Are there really cut scenes and censored parts?” Farah Zeynep Abdullah asked, expressing her astonishment, and in a subsequent post, she reacted to the censorship in the film.

The famous actress included the following statements in her post;

“NO WORDS”

“On TV, people can shoot each other left and right, but you go and cut the word PERIOD, cut the 'Istanbul Convention saves lives' [reference], don't show the dance scenes, and did you say they even censored a back in the bathhouse? There are no words, I am so ashamed, I apologize to the viewers for these ridiculous censors”
