Author and historian Özlem Kumrular has passed away

Renowned historian Prof. Dr. Özlem Kumrular, who was hospitalized after being struck by a bus in Zurich last June and had been fighting for her life for nearly a year, has passed away.

In a statement released by Doğan Kitap, it was stated: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of our author, Prof. Dr. Özlem Kumrular, who had been fighting for her life for some time following an unfortunate accident. We extend our patience and condolences to her loved ones and family."

WHO IS ÖZLEM KUMRULAR?

Born in Istanbul in 1974, Prof. Dr. Özlem Kumrular completed her undergraduate studies at Boğaziçi University's Department of Western Languages and Literatures, her master's degree at the same university's Department of History, and her doctorate at the University of Salamanca in Spain.

Özlem Kumrular was known for her research on Turkish and Ottoman history using Spanish sources. Kumrular's research books, such as "The Fear of Islam" and "The Ottoman-Habsburg Duel," have been translated into foreign languages.

Additionally, Kumrular, who also penned historical fiction novels such as "Kösem Sultan" and "Those Who Established Thrones in the Harem - Nurbanu and Safiye Sultan," authored a work that provided an in-depth look at the Ottoman palace cuisine with her study titled "The Sultan's Kitchen."
