Aydemir Akbaş has passed away

Akbaş had been found unconscious at his home and was rushed to the hospital. Akbaş, who was taken under treatment in intensive care, had been intubated. The sad news came from the master actor. Aydemir Akbaş has passed away at the age of 88.

Announcing the news of the master artist's passing on social media, his manager Özgür Aksoy stated, "The great plane tree of Turkish cinema, our dear one, our master, our brother Aydemir has passed away. Our pain is immense. May God grant him a place in heaven."

MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCE FROM MINISTER ERSOY

Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy published a message of condolence for the late artist Aydemir Akbaş.

In his post on his social media account, Ersoy stated, "I wish God's mercy upon Aydemir Akbaş, one of the beloved actors of Yeşilçam, and extend my condolences to his relatives, friends, and our entire artistic community. May he rest in peace."

HE WAS IBRAHIM TATLISES'S 45-YEAR FRIEND

Sharing a photo with his close friend on his Instagram account, İbrahim Tatlıses had announced, "My dear friend of 45 years, my dear brother Aydemir Akbaş is currently in intensive care. I ask for prayers for my Aydoş from you, his dear fans. Respectfully."

Having previously battled colon, throat, and intestinal cancer, Aydemir Akbaş announced in January 2023 that he had been diagnosed with cancer again.

Aydemir Akbaş, who brought the character 'Sabri' to life in the comedy series 'Kolpaçino' starring Şafak Sezer, last appeared in front of the camera in the film 'Kolpaçino 4 4'lük'.

WHO IS AYDEMIR AKBAŞ?

Master actor Aydemir Akbaş was born in 1936 in Feriköy, Istanbul, as the child of an Albanian father who came to Turkey during the Balkan Wars and a mother from Trabzon.

After completing his education at Galatasaray High School, the artist worked as a journalist for a while and began acting in theater under the guidance of Altan Erbulak.

Working with theater troupes such as Gülriz Sururi, Ayfer Feray-Nisa Serezli, and Ali Poyrazoğlu, the artist took part in plays such as "Keşanlı Ali Destanı", "Direkler Arası", "Zilli Zarife", and "Ferhat ile Şirin".

Completing his military service in the Suruç district of Urfa in 1960, Akbaş later joined the Gülriz Sururi–Engin Cezzar Theater.

Stepping into cinema in 1964 with the film "Keşanlı Ali Destanı" directed by Atıf Yılmaz, the master actor both served as stage manager and brought the character "Sipsi Selim" to life in the first theater performance of "Keşanlı Ali Destanı" on March 31, 1964, before the film.

Aydemir Akbaş took part in the play "7 Kocalı Hürmüz", which was staged at the Ayfer Feray–Nisa Serezli Theater in 1968.

The successful actor became one of the partners of the Gülriz Sururi-Engin Cezzar and Partners Theater in 1969. Akbaş, who acted in the plays "Nikah Kağıdı" and "Düşenin Dostu", also directed many theater plays.

The artist acted in Yılmaz Güney films as well as Yeşilçam films in 1974. In later years, he worked on screenplays with İbrahim Tatlıses.

HE ACTED IN 127 FILMS

Acting in 127 films, mostly comedies, Akbaş directed 8 films and performed in nearly 30 theater plays and many television series.

The artist, who also acted in the series "Ahududu", which was adapted into a screenplay by Fırat Zobu from Joseph Kesselring's 1939 play "Arsenic and Old Lace" and presented to the audience on TRT 1 in 1974-1975, also appeared in the series "Altındağlı" in 2013.

In addition to acting, Akbaş also wrote screenplays and signed his name to the scripts of 33 films.

HE RETURNED TO CINEMA WITH HIS ROLE IN THE KOLPAÇINO SERIES

Starting his directing career in 1987 with the film "Düş Yakamdan Osman", Akbaş met with cinema lovers in the "Kolpaçino" film series with Şafak Sezer and the film "Kutsal Damacana 2: İt Men".

Aydemir Akbaş appeared before the audience in the films "Alemde 1 Gece" in 2016, "Sünnet Çocuğu" in 2022, and "Kolpaçino 4 4'lük" in 2023.

First marrying theater actress Beyhan Benek in 1964, the artist married his wife, whom he divorced twice, three times in total.
