Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was detained in a dawn operation on March 19, was arrested on charges of 'corruption' on March 23 and sent to Silivri Prison.
As protests grew across the country following İmamoğlu's detention and arrest, a large number of students who were taken into custody were subsequently arrested.
Famous actress Beren Saat reacted to the arrest of the students.
Sharing a post on her social media account, Saat stated, "My heart breaks as I see the mothers crying at the doors; they are the families of students from Turkey's best universities. If our country is to progress in the future, it will be thanks to these young people. Please do not hurt them, listen to their demands, let them be released."
