Cem Yılmaz comments on court's alimony ruling: 'I don't take care of my child'

Cem Yılmaz and Ahu Yağtu ended their 20-month marriage in 2013 through a mutual agreement. Yılmaz agreed to pay 10,000 dollars per month for his child, Kemal. Noting that the dollar exchange rate was 2.13 Turkish Lira at the time the divorce protocol was signed, Cem Yılmaz pointed to the rise in the dollar exchange rate and the decrease in his income during the pandemic.

For this reason, Yılmaz filed a lawsuit in 2022, requesting that the child support be converted into Turkish Lira and reduced to 40,000 lira per month. Ahu Yağtu, on the other hand, requested that Cem Yılmaz's demand be rejected, stating that expenses for the child's education and development have increased.

In the case heard at the 38th Civil Chamber of the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice, it was recalled that Cem Yılmaz had accepted the clause in Article 4 of the divorce protocol, which stated in detail: "The determined alimony amount is appropriate for the economic and social conditions of the parties, and potential increases in exchange rates have been anticipated."

The ruling concluded that 10,000 dollars was not an amount far beyond Cem Yılmaz's ability to pay, given his economic and social status.

Thus, the 38th Civil Chamber of the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice ruled that Cem Yılmaz must continue to pay 10,000 dollars in monthly alimony.
