Cengiz Kurtoğlu's sentence has been determined

The trial of singer Cengiz Kurtoğlu, who was accused of assaulting and insulting Mustafa Can, whom he met at a friend's birthday party, for allegedly making insulting criticisms about his fellow artist friends, has been concluded.

The hearing was held at the Istanbul 55th Criminal Court of First Instance, where the lawyers for both parties were present.

During the hearing, the defendant Kurtoğlu's lawyer, Burcu Gündüz Battal, stated that they reiterated their previous defenses, saying, "The incident in question is a dispute that occurred as a result of the client being provoked following a mutual exchange of words between the parties. We request the acquittal of our client." The complainant Mustafa Can's lawyer, İsmail Uğurlu, stated that their complaint continues and requested that the defendant Kurtoğlu be punished.

SENTENCED TO A FINE OF 2,660 LIRA

Announcing its verdict, the court sentenced the defendant Kurtoğlu to a judicial fine of 1,500 Lira for the crime of 'simple assault' and a judicial fine of 1,160 Lira for the crime of 'insult'. It was decided to defer the announcement of the verdict for both crimes for which Kurtoğlu was sentenced to a total judicial fine of 2,660 Lira.

FROM THE INDICTMENT

In the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that the complainant Mustafa Can and the suspect Cengiz Kurtoğlu attended a birthday party of mutual friends, sat at the same table and met, and that Kurtoğlu reacted to the words spoken by the complainant Can about Orhan Gencebay during the conversation.

The indictment stated that a verbal argument began between the parties, and during the argument, the suspect Kurtoğlu insulted the complainant with profanity and then punched him in the face.

In the indictment, which also included the statement of the suspect Kurtoğlu, it was noted that he said the complainant made insulting criticisms about beloved and respected artists, that he warned the complainant in a polite manner for this reason, and that when he continued his insults, he held him by the mouth area with his hand, and at this stage, his fingernail might have scratched the complainant's face.

In the prepared indictment, it was requested that the suspect Cengiz Kurtoğlu be sentenced to a total of 7 months to 3 years in prison, ranging from 4 months to 1 year for the crime of 'simple assault' and from 3 months to 2 years for the crime of 'insult'.
