Cinema Workers Union: 'Our colleagues' wages have become insufficient in the face of high inflation'

As of January, the wage increase demands of workers in the series, cinema, and television sectors are being discussed by the public.

The Cinema Workers Union (SİNE-SEN), in a statement made on behalf of sector workers, demanded a 70 percent raise for the first six months.

In its written statement, SİNE-SEN included the following lines:

"While Turkey's annual inflation rate for 2023 was 64.77 percent according to TUIK, it was 127.21 percent according to ENAG. For this reason, there is a need to redetermine the wages of our colleagues in the cinema, television, and advertising sectors, which have become insufficient in the face of high inflation for 2024. A 70 percent raise for the first 6 months of 2024 is deemed appropriate..."

The Cinema and Television Union, on the other hand, announced a decision to increase wages by 40 percent as of February 1.

Statement from the union:

"Considering the economic conditions we are in, our colleagues have turned the 40 percent increase in the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce's wage earners' cost of living index for the last 6 months of 2023 into a decision for improvement at this rate. Our decision for a 40 percent wage improvement has been found appropriate by the Advertising Creators Association (RYD), but has not been accepted by TESİYAP.
