A program aired on the morning block of TRT 1 on November 10, Atatürk Commemoration Day, which is a day of mourning in Turkey, drew backlash.

The fact that TRT, the state broadcaster that continues its operations with taxes collected from citizens, aired an entertainment program hosted by folk singer Alişan at a time when everyone else was broadcasting content appropriate to the meaning and significance of the day, sparked reactions.

There was an outpouring of criticism over the footage of Alişan and his guests dancing the horon and singing folk songs on the program titled "Hayata Gülümse" (Smile at Life).
