Verdict reached in trial of Hazal Kaya for insulting Musa Orhan
A verdict has been reached in the trial of Hazal Kaya, who was prosecuted for supporting Ezgi Mola, who had previously been tried for insulting Musa Orhan. The court ruled that there was 'no grounds for punishment'.
Actress Hazal Kaya had insulted Musa Orhan, who was found to have sexually assaulted İpek Er, who died by suicide in Batman last year, via her social media account.
The court has reached its verdict in the case filed by Orhan's lawyer.
'NO PUNISHMENT GIVEN'
Kaya's lawyer, Hande Kuday, made the following statement regarding the case:
"The Ankara 9th Criminal Court of First Instance, while acknowledging the existence of the insult, stated that this act of insult was committed as a reaction to an unjust act and decided that there was 'no grounds for punishment' for Hazal Kaya."
Noting that the court's decision would set a 'precedent' if it becomes final, Kuday stated, "Thus, it will be understood that the judiciary cannot be used as a tool for the purpose of building an income model over a young woman whose life was darkened and taken from her, and at the very least, the memory of İpek Er will be left in peace."
