Deniz Çakır criticizes the TV series industry: 'It's as if women have a shelf life'
Successful actress Deniz Çakır has voiced her criticisms of the industry following the debate over the age gap between male and female actors in television series. Opposing the marginalization of female actors based on age, Çakır stated that this approach is unfair.
In recent days, the age gap between lead couples in Turkish television series has once again become a topic of debate. In particular, the 23-year age difference in a project featuring Kenan İmirzalıoğlu and Afra Saraçoğlu created a stir on social media, while the pairing of Murat Yıldırım and Cemre Baysel on screen with an age gap of approximately 20 years also drew criticism.
Deniz Çakır emphasized that the real issue in these debates is the different way female actors are treated in the industry. The famous actress expressed her thoughts on the matter as follows:
"We come across roles where the woman is young and the man is older. It's not that it can't happen. It can happen in series just as it does in real life. But it's as if women have a shelf life. The men stay the same, while the women beside them are updated. This is unfair. It's nothing new, and it's not a subject I'm going to spend time thinking about."
