Director Ferzan Özpetek in legal dispute with tenant

Renowned director Ferzan Özpetek has taken his tenant to court over his shop in Istanbul's historic Beyoğlu district. The court will have the final say on the rent increase.

Director Ferzan Özpetek rented out his duplex shop on Cezayir Street, one of the busiest areas in Istanbul, to Arkeoloji Sanat Yayınları in 2013.

The parties agreed on a contract price of 2,700 liras. The famous director requested a rent increase, claiming that the rent for his shop had remained low compared to similar properties over the years.

The tenants began paying 8,370 liras.

FILED A RENT DETERMINATION LAWSUIT

According to a report by Sabah, Özpetek applied to the Civil Court of Peace through his lawyer and filed a rent determination lawsuit.

According to the expert report included in the case file, the rental prices for similar shops on the same street were 24,431 liras including withholding tax.

COURT WILL DECIDE

Following this report, the court will have the final say.
