Dispute over 'imam' and 'standing in line' at fashion designer Zühal Yorgancıoğlu's funeral: He did not permit it
At the funeral of İzmir-based fashion designer Zühal Yorgancıoğlu, her daughter Müberra Yorgancıoğlu and several other women wanted to stand in the front row for the funeral prayer. The mosque imam did not permit this according to procedure, leading to tense moments.
İzmir-based fashion designer Zühal Yorgancıoğlu has passed away at the age of 100.
A funeral ceremony was held at the Alsancak Hocazade Mosque for Yorgancıoğlu, who died at her home in the Balçova district due to health issues related to old age.
TENSION OVER STANDING IN LINE
However, tensions rose for a while during the funeral ceremony due to a dispute over standing in line for the prayer.
At Zühal Yorgancıoğlu’s funeral, her daughter Müberra Yorgancıoğlu and some of her female relatives wanted to stand in line with the men during the funeral prayer.
IMAM DID NOT PERMIT
Alsancak Hocazade Mosque Imam Salih Bayram stated that he could not permit such a thing according to procedure.
İmam Bayram, who spoke with Müberra Yorgancıoğlu for a while, explained the reason why he could not permit it in more detail.
SON REACTED TO THE IMAM
At this point, the famous fashion designer's son, Faruk Yorgancıoğlu, joined the conversation and argued that there was no harm in women standing in line during the prayer.
There were also those among the congregation who supported Yorgancıoğlu.
"ARE WE NOT ALL GOING TO THE SAME PLACE"
Faruk Yorgancıoğlu objected once more to Imam Salih Bayram, saying, "Are we not all going to the same place?"
Imam Salih Bayram did not change his decision despite Faruk Yorgancıoğlu continuing his objection.
However, some people from the congregation also reacted to the prolongation of the argument, saying, "Hoca, just lead the prayer already."
THEY TOOK A STEP BACK
After the short-lived tension, the women stepped out of the line.
Following the funeral prayer, Zühal Yorgancıoğlu was laid to rest.
