MKE Ankaragücü Club President Faruk Koca attacked referee Halil Umut Meler with the final whistle of the match against Çaykur Rizespor, which ended in a 1-1 draw during the 15th week of the Trendyol Super League.
Halil Umut Meler was taken to the locker room under heavy security measures 10 minutes after receiving treatment.
'NO LIFE-THREATENING DANGER'
Stating that referee Halil Umut Meler, who was taken under treatment at a private hospital in Ankara, only had bleeding around his left eye, doctors said, "There is no significant life-threatening danger, but because there is a head trauma, we will monitor our colleague until the morning. We will likely discharge him after performing the checks."
A comment on the violent incident, which drew public reaction, also came from actress Doğa Rutkay, known for the Güldür Güldür Show.
'AN ACT FAR FROM CIVILIZATION'
Rutkay stated, "As an Ankara native, a mother, and a football fan, I condemn this attack. It is an act far from civilization. While we want to raise gentlemanly athletes, what is this that is happening? It's a shame, it's a shame!"
