Don't visit these cities as a tourist in 2025! Fodor's has announced...

With its annual "No List," Fodor's draws attention to destinations facing the negative impacts of overtourism. Here are the destinations identified for 2025 that tourists are advised to reconsider...

The beaches of Bali, which were set to welcome 5.3 million international visitors in 2023, have been buried under approximately 303,000 tons of plastic waste, once pristine.

Sustainable travel expert Kristin Winkaffe, "Overtourism is affecting the essence of Balinese life." she said.

"If there is no change, we risk losing not only the beautiful scenery but also our cultural identity." she added.

Adventure tourism to Mount Everest was similarly warned due to the volume of waste and the risks it poses to local workers.

While Barcelona, Mallorca, and the Canary Islands were dubbed "European destinations where locals don't want you" due to tourism protests this summer, Venice and Lisbon were added to the list due to a new entry fee for day-trippers and a housing shortage, respectively.

With the release of The White Lotus in 2025, travelers have been warned for the second time not to vacation in Koh Samui, Thailand, due to concerns over overcrowding. Experts worry that increased traffic will "exacerbate existing problems" such as waste management and water resources on the island.

Destinations that are "beginning to struggle" include the "British Virgin Islands, Kerala in India, the Japanese cities of Kyoto and Tokyo, and Oaxaca in Mexico."

Fodor's stated that the city of Agrigento in Sicily, the 2025 Italian Capital of Culture, is facing a "severe water crisis that could be worsened by increased tourism."
