Engin Altan Düzyatan's statement on Gaza: 'We must not let it be forgotten'

Actor Engin Altan Düzyatan, known for projects such as Diriliş Ertuğrul, Barbaroslar: Akdeniz'in Kılıcı, and Çöp Adam, reacted to the attacks carried out by Israel in Gaza.

Stating that innocent people are being killed in Gaza, Düzyatan also touched upon the sensitivity shown by some famous names at the Cannes Film Festival regarding the killing of innocent Palestinians.

In his statement, Düzyatan used the following expressions:

"Art must be protest-oriented in some way and, in fact, it must always be against what is wrong. Its stance should be in this direction. Because, in fact, the duty of art is to show people the good, the beautiful, and the true, and to offer a new perspective. What is happening in Palestine, in Gaza, is very clear. It is happening before the eyes of the whole world, and unfortunately, the world remains silent about it. A portion of people also remain silent about it.

Because we live in a modern society and in a time that flows very fast. Everyone actually has their own troubles on one hand, and their own troubles are also significant. Yes, they see this for a moment and feel sadness about this situation. But after that, everyone actually returns to their own troubles in the world. Because unfortunately, the world is such a place. Everyone thinks that their own trouble is the biggest. But unfortunately, that is not the case."

'EVERYONE HAS A TROUBLE'

Saying "A great tragedy is being experienced in Gaza," Engin Altan included the following words in the continuation of his statement:

"Drawing attention to this, not forgetting or letting others forget what is happening there should also be the duty of artists; artists should touch upon this as much as they can. Of course, as I said, life does not allow for this either. You cannot live thinking about this every day. Unfortunately, there is no such world. Everyone has a life, a trouble.

But despite the pressures, it is very important and very valuable for people to bring this to light again and show their support for the people there again. For example, I was really very impressed by (Cate Blanchett) doing such a thing. I think it was Cate Blanchett. She did a perfect thing. I mean, it was a very, very beautiful example. It was also a very brave move..."
