Famous producer announces: The life of Özgecan Aslan is being made into a film

University student Özgecan Aslan was kidnapped by Suphi Altındöken in a minibus in the Tarsus district of Mersin on February 11, 2015, where she was sexually assaulted and subsequently murdered.

The murder of Özgecan Aslan became a turning point regarding femicide in Turkey, and protests were held in many cities across the country to condemn the killings of women.

The defendants, Suphi Altındöken, his father Necmettin Altındöken, and Fatih Gökçe, were sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment at the end of the trial. The perpetrator of the murder, Suphi Altındöken, was killed by another inmate at the Adana F-Type High-Security Closed Penal Institution on April 11, 2016.

According to an ANKA report, the life of Özgecan Aslan will be adapted into a film. The film's director and screenwriter, Seçil Çelebi, and the producer, Mahmut Şirin, held a press conference regarding the film yesterday at the Ankara Öveçler Nazım Hikmet Çankaya House.

'WE WILL BE THE VOICE OF WOMEN WHO HAVE FALLEN VICTIM TO MURDER'

Duru Film Yapım founder Mahmut Şirin said, "Unfortunately, Özgecan is a symbol of femicide in Turkey, and through her cry, we want to make the voices of all women who have fallen victim to murder heard."

Stating that they have received the family's consent for the film, Şirin continued: "The family wanted to get to know us. We spent a lot of time together. We talked about Özgecan. There were times we cried together. There were times we nurtured hope together for the day when femicide will come to an end. Preparations for our film will begin soon. We will be making a professional feature film. We will work with a professional team. Our dates have not yet been finalized."
