Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has been arrested as part of a "corruption" investigation into the IMM.
IMM Mayoral Advisor and Chairman of the Board of IMM Medya AŞ, Murat Ongun, is also among those arrested.
While Ercan Saatçi is among those released, famous figures are also sharing their comments on the agenda on social media.
Pianist Fazıl Say expressed his grievances following the news of the arrest.
Fazıl Say used the following expressions regarding the arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu:
"A very bad day in the history of Turkey.
İmamoğlu has been arrested.
No one listened to the outcry of millions.
Politicians elected by the will of the people are being arrested; this is in no way acceptable.
The independence of the judiciary and democracy have both been disregarded.
Friends;
Today is a day for solidarity.
Citizens, people
our lives, our freedom, our hopes, our future, our labor, everything we have,
is being disregarded,
is being considered worthless
and is being considered invalid.
We, the Turkish people,
are very sad today..."
