The first baby of the Republic's 100th anniversary is born: Named 'Ata'

As the Republic of Turkey celebrates its 100th anniversary today, Yağmur and Erdem Öztürk, a couple in Istanbul, named their baby, who was born in the first minutes of the century, Ata. Born last night at 00:05 at a private hospital in Kavacık, Ata has gone down in history as the first baby born in the 100th year of the Republic of Turkey.

Father Erdem Öztürk said, "We are very happy that it coincided with October 29. When we learned from our doctor that the date was October 29, we immediately started thinking of names. We decided that 'Ata' was the most appropriate name. Our baby's name is Ata Öztürk. We are happy and excited."

Mother Yağmur Öztürk also said, "October 29 was the expected due date. We wanted it to be in harmony with the meaning and importance of the day. We now have our own 'Ata'. Hopefully, he will be a child who is beneficial to the nation and the country, worthy of his name."

Dr. Sadiye Eren, who performed the delivery, said, "It is even more beautiful to have experienced such an event on the 100th anniversary of the Republic. We always used to celebrate the first baby of the new year. Now, we are celebrating the first baby of the 100th year of our Republic. It is a wonderful feeling."
