First statement from Ayaz Koç, who arrived at the mosque in a 'Spider-Man' costume: 'I was roughed up, my foot was put in a cast'
Ayaz Koç, who entered the congregation in the İskenderun district of Hatay wearing a 'Spider-Man' costume to perform Eid prayer and was removed from the mosque by police teams, recounted his experience: "They pinned me to the ground, handcuffed me behind my back, and stepped on my foot. I was roughed up, my foot was put in a cast, and I cannot walk."
Ayaz Koç, who set out from İzmir to travel across 81 provinces in a 'Spider-Man' costume to bring joy to children and arrived in İskenderun last week, performed Eid prayer yesterday morning at the Kaptan Paşa Mosque while wearing his costume.
The congregation, uneasy about Koç's presence, reported a masked individual in the mosque to the police.
Plainclothes and uniformed police officers in the vicinity arrived at the mosque shortly after and escorted Koç outside.
Koç explained his project to the police and was released after it was understood that there was no suspicious situation.
'POLICE SUDDENLY ARRIVED'
Recounting his experience, Ayaz Koç stated that he was taken outside during the takbirs after the prayer and spoke as follows:
"People recognized me in the earthquake zones. I voluntarily entertained children in the earthquake zones. I stayed in 5 regions. I stayed in Hatay for a long time because there were many painful losses. Later, my dream of traveling across Turkey began.
The idea of a Spider-Man traveling across Turkey and providing morale emerged. I have completed 33 cities. I became a Spider-Man who shows historical and famous places.
I said, let me go from Trabzon to Hatay. Because people had recognized me here. I stayed in İskenderun and went to Eid prayer in my Spider-Man costume. There were those who recognized me, those who supported me, and those who took photos. After the prayer, during the takbirs, the police suddenly arrived."
