Folk singer Sabahat Akkiraz: 'My sister was attacked by dogs'
The sister of famous folk singer Sabahat Akkiraz was subjected to a dog attack. In a statement regarding the incident, Akkiraz said, "The issue is no longer about whether you love dogs or not. The issue is now a security problem."
Many reports have appeared in the media stating that the AKP has prepared a proposal to solve the problems regarding stray dogs and that this proposal will be presented to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).
These reports stated that all dogs would be collected and kept in shelters for 30 days, during which time adoption notices would be posted.
In the days when this debate flared up, famous folk singer Sabahat Akkiraz announced that her sister had been attacked by dogs.
Akkiraz said the following regarding the incident:
"Yesterday morning, my sister left the house to walk her dog towards the Tarabya coast. Before she could go two streets, she was attacked by a group of stray dogs.
My sister, who loves not just dogs but all animals very much, almost ended up in the hospital. The issue is no longer about whether you love dogs or not. The issue is now a security problem.
There is no need to reinvent the wheel to solve this. The roadmap of countries that have done it is clear. If you cannot find a solution, take a civilized solution and use it.
Do not darken the lives of both people and animals by postponing the issue with absurd divisions even on this matter. Municipalities cannot solve this issue. As is well known, they have more important things to do."
