Former Miss Turkey Gelengül Tayfuroğlu has passed away
Gelengül Tayfuroğlu, who was crowned Miss Turkey and represented our country in the world's first 'Miss Universe' pageant held in the USA in 1952, has passed away.
Gelengül Tayfuroğlu, who was crowned Miss Turkey in 1952 and represented our country abroad, has passed away at the age of 90.
Following the funeral prayer held at Teşvikiye Mosque, Tayfuroğlu was laid to rest next to her husband, who passed away in 2003, at the Aşiyan cemetery.
ABOUT GELENGÜL TAYFUROĞLU
Competing against beauties from 30 countries at the first-ever Miss Universe pageant held on the Long Beach coast in Los Angeles, Gelengül Tayfuroğlu had broken many taboos by participating in the contest during those years.
Life Magazine had photographed the contestants. Gelengül Tayfuroğlu had posed for the cameras alongside beauties from many other countries in those photos.
After the pageant, Gelengül Tayfuroğlu married the famous film producer of the era, Hürrem Erman.
Gelengül Tayfuroğlu passed away on January 10, 2024.
