French comedian Guillaume Meurice loses his job at French radio over criticisms of Netanyahu
French comedian Guillaume Meurice has been fired from the national radio broadcaster Radio France due to his critical remarks about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to reports in the national press, French comedian Guillaume Meurice has lost his job at Radio Inter, a station under Radio France, due to his humorous remarks criticizing Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, who continues his attacks on Gaza.
Radio France informed the comedian that his "employment contract was terminated early due to a serious error."
Radio France CEO Sibyle Veil stated in an interview with Le Monde regarding the comedian's dismissal that the decision was made due to Meurice's "stubbornness and repeated disloyalty."
Arguing that "freedom of expression and humor were in no way targeted" within the institution, Veil claimed that the comedian continued his rhetoric despite warnings, leaving them with no option other than dismissal.
EUROPEAN JEWISH ASSOCIATION HAD FILED A COMPLAINT
The European Jewish Association had filed a complaint against Guillaume Meurice following his critical and humorous remarks about Netanyahu during the October 29 program, alleging that he "incited violence and spread antisemitic hatred."
The French comedian had been suspended on May 2.
