Decision reached regarding Mehmet Ali Erbil! Will house arrest continue?

The judicial control measure of 'house arrest' imposed on famous presenter Mehmet Ali Erbil as part of an illegal betting operation has been lifted.

Evaluating the objection filed by Erbil's lawyer, the court decided that the famous figure must report to a police station once a week to sign in.

The 'house arrest' sentence for singer Serdar Ortaç, who was also caught up in the same investigation, had previously been lifted.

UP TO THREE YEARS IN PRISON SOUGHT

An indictment was prepared against famous presenter Mehmet Ali Erbil, seeking a prison sentence of 1 to 3 years for the crime of 'encouraging individuals to place bets or play games of chance based on sports competitions through advertising or other means', on allegations that he advertised illegal betting and encouraged people to participate.

While the investigation was ongoing, Erbil was brought to the courthouse and the duty judge ordered a judicial control measure in the form of 'house arrest'; the date for his court appearance had also been set. Before the first hearing for Erbil, whose trial is set to begin on December 30 at the Istanbul 20th Criminal Court of First Instance, his lawyers Şeyda Yıldırım and Kübra Aslan submitted a petition to appeal the judicial control measure of 'house arrest'.

HOUSE ARREST LIFTED

As a result of the appeal, the court decided to lift the judicial control measure of 'house arrest' and instead ordered a judicial control measure requiring Erbil to report to the police station nearest to his home every Monday to 'sign in'.
