March temperatures give way to snow and rain! What will the weather be like during Eid al-Fitr?
Record-breaking temperatures in March are giving way to a harsh cold wave. The Turkish State Meteorological Service has announced that, under the influence of a cold air system arriving from the Balkans, snow is expected in Central Anatolia and eastern regions, while heavy rain is expected in western regions. Air temperatures will drop by up to 20 degrees in many cities. In Istanbul, the temperature difference will reach 21-22 degrees. So, what will the weather be like during Eid al-Fitr?
The weather, which did not feel like March due to summer-like temperatures, is giving way to a harsh cold wave starting today. Temperatures that exceeded 25 degrees last week will drop suddenly due to the influence of a cold and rainy system arriving via the Balkans.
The Turkish State Meteorological Service and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) have warned citizens about this cold wave, which will continue throughout the week.
While snowfall is expected in Central and Eastern Anatolia, heavy rain and storms will be effective in the western regions. Air temperatures are expected to drop by 15-20 degrees suddenly in many cities. In some provinces, the temperature difference will reach 27-28 degrees. It is estimated that temperatures in Istanbul will drop by 21-22 degrees suddenly and revert to winter values throughout the week.
WHAT WAS THE REASON FOR THE TEMPERATURE RISE?
Temperatures exceeding 25 degrees last week had risen well above seasonal norms due to a heatwave from North Africa and intense dust transport. Stating, "We experienced temperatures that we should have seen at the end of May and the beginning of June," Meteorological Engineer Adil Tek noted that this temperature increase was linked to dust transport and air currents.
However, this warm air began to lose its effect yesterday afternoon. Adil Tek stated that polar air, which has been affecting Europe, has begun to shift toward Turkey and that temperatures will drop suddenly.
There will be major drops in temperature values throughout this week. In some provinces, the temperature difference will reach 27-28 degrees. In Istanbul, the air temperature will decrease by as much as 21-22 degrees.
AKOM also announced that temperatures would drop by 20 degrees suddenly. The statement was made that "there will be passing heavy rain showers with the cold air wave coming from the Balkans."
WHEN WILL THE COLD AIR LOSE ITS EFFECT?
Evaluating the weather conditions, Adil Tek said, "The cold air will lose its effect starting Friday, and sunny days will return."
No precipitation is expected in Istanbul, especially starting from March 21. Although temperatures are expected to rise after March 24, it is stated that the effects of last week's African heat will not be seen.
WHAT WILL THE WEATHER BE LIKE DURING RAMADAN BAYRAM?
Meteorology Expert Dr. Güven Özdemir said that the weather during Ramadan Bayram will follow seasonal norms.
The Marmara and Western Black Sea regions will be partly cloudy with short-term rain.
In the high altitudes of the Eastern Black Sea, temperatures will range between 0-12 degrees.
Eastern Anatolia will be partly cloudy and intermittently rainy.
Temperatures in the Southeastern and Mediterranean regions will range between 10-25 degrees.
Similar temperature values may be seen in Central Anatolia.
In April, the possibility of local precipitation will continue.
