Mehmet Ali Erbil signs in for the first time under judicial control measures

Famous presenter Mehmet Ali Erbil, who was detained on allegations of advertising illegal betting and encouraging people to participate, went to the police station today to sign in as part of the judicial control measures imposed on him.

The famous presenter Mehmet Ali Erbil had been detained as part of an illegal betting investigation that also included famous singer Serdar Ortaç and numerous social media influencers.

An indictment was prepared against Mehmet Ali Erbil, requesting a prison sentence of 1 to 3 years for the crime of 'encouraging individuals to place bets or play games of chance based on sports competitions through advertising or other means', based on allegations that he advertised illegal betting and encouraged people to participate.

HE HAD APPEALED THE HOUSE ARREST

While the investigation was ongoing, Erbil was brought to the courthouse and the duty judge ruled for a 'house arrest' judicial control measure; the date for his appearance in court had also been set.

Erbil, whose trial is set to begin on December 30 at the Istanbul 20th Criminal Court of First Instance, had his lawyers file an appeal to lift the 'house arrest' judicial control measure before the first hearing.

Following the appeal, the court decided to lift the 'house arrest' judicial control measure and instead ruled that Erbil must report to the nearest police station every Monday to 'sign in' as a judicial control measure.

In accordance with this judicial control measure, Mehmet Ali Erbil went to a police station in Sarıyer to sign in. Meanwhile, Erbil left the police station without answering questions from members of the press.
