Following the passing of Nihal Candan, her sister Zeynep Su Candan made harsh criticisms against her sister's ex-husband, Mehmet Faruk Çiçek, during a television program she attended.

Sharing the content of the messages Çiçek sent to her sister, Su Candan used the expressions, 'He wrote to my sister, "The sister-in-law is sweeter than honey." He wouldn't answer my sister's calls; he deceived my sister and toyed with her soul.'

Su Candan, who struggled to control her emotions at times while speaking, mentioned the parties Çiçek held while in prison and his attitude toward her sister, asking, 'Is this humanity? Why did he do this to my sister?'

17-year-old Su Candan stated that they saw Çiçek's messages when they checked her sister's phone after her death.

'After she died, we took her phone and saw that Çiçek had said, "If you don't answer, the sister-in-law is sweeter than honey; I'll write to them anyway." What kind of mentality is this?' she said.
