Snow disrupts education: Districts in Istanbul where schools are closed have been announced!

Following warnings from the General Directorate of Meteorology, the “Altay” snowstorm has begun to take effect in Istanbul.

While snowfall is expected to continue for 4 days in Istanbul, it is estimated that snow depth will reach up to 40 centimeters in some regions.

Due to the heavy snowfall, the Sultangazi District Governorship has decided to close all schools in the district.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE SULTANGAZİ DISTRICT GOVERNORSHIP

The Sultangazi District Governorship announced that education has been suspended for 1 day in all educational institutions in the district due to heavy snowfall and adverse weather conditions.

The statement from the District Governorship included the following::

"Due to the heavy snowfall affecting our district, education has been suspended for 1 day on Wednesday, 19.02.2025, in all schools at the kindergarten, nursery, primary, secondary, and high school levels."

"Personnel working in public institutions in Sultangazi who are pregnant, disabled, or have chronic illnesses will be considered on administrative leave."

With this announcement, schools in Sultangazi were officially closed for Wednesday, February 19.

Following the decision taken in the Sultangazi district, millions of students and parents are wondering whether education will be suspended across Istanbul as well.
