Travel ban for Selin Ciğerci and Gökhan Çıra: Billion-lira money laundering allegations

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has deepened the investigation launched in 2022 into social media influencer Selin Ciğerci and her ex-husband, former footballer Gökhan Çıra, over allegations of "money laundering."

According to a report by Habertürk, the expert committee's report identified serious tax irregularities in the accounts of 4 cosmetic companies owned by Ciğerci.

BILLIONS OF LIRA IN TRANSACTION DETAILS

The report, which covers the years 2021-2023, determined that there were money transfers worth approximately 3 billion lira in the bank accounts of Ciğerci's companies.

The source of 2.6 billion lira of these transactions could not be determined. The profit margins of the companies were found to be far above sectoral norms.

According to the report, while the average profit margin in the cosmetics sector is around 4 percent, Ciğerci's companies reported profit margins approaching 50 percent.

It is alleged that Selin Ciğerci's companies created a false earnings statement by inflating sales revenues. In this way, high profitability rates were recorded and tax liabilities were manipulated. The expert report emphasized that the source of this income has not yet been determined.

The investigation was not limited to Ciğerci and Çıra. A total of 9 suspects, including the couple's close family members, are included in the file. A suspect who effectively played a role in the management of the companies is also being examined within this scope.

TRAVEL BAN IMPOSED

Upon the request of the prosecutor's office, a travel ban was imposed on Selin Ciğerci, Gökhan Çıra, and one other suspect.
