Volkan Konak's words from years ago break hearts! 'If we had stayed with my father's side...'
Volkan Konak, who etched himself into memory with unforgettable songs like Cerrahpaşa, Yarim Yarim, and Mimoza Çiçeğim, passed away after suffering a heart attack during a holiday concert in Cyprus. The words the 58-year-old artist spoke years ago have deeply affected his fans.
Known in the music world as the "Son of the North," Volkan Konak suddenly fell ill while on stage during his concert in Cyprus. It was understood that the famous artist had suffered a heart attack, and despite all interventions, he could not be saved and passed away at the age of 58.
LAID TO REST IN HIS HOMETOWN
Volkan Konak was laid to rest in the Maçka district of Trabzon, where he was born and raised. In accordance with his will, the famous artist was buried under the walnut tree next to his father's grave.
"IF WE TOOK AFTER MY FATHER'S SIDE, WE WOULD HAVE DIED AT 58"
Following his sudden passing, which left the art world and his fans in mourning, the words Volkan Konak spoke on stage years ago have come to the fore. In a video recorded during a concert he gave in Germany in 2019, the expressions used by the famous artist were heartbreaking:
"What is the need for this fighting? Is there anyone who lives for 500 years? I only have 20 years left at most. Thank God I take after my mother's side; they live long. My father's side is always dying. My mother's side lives to an average of 78. If we took after my father's side, we would have died at 58."
HE LOST HIS FATHER TO LYMPHOMA
On the other hand, Volkan Konak's father, Cevat Konak, was diagnosed with lymphoma in the 1990s. Cevat Konak, who received treatment for a long time at Istanbul Cerrahpaşa Hospital, lost his life due to this illness.
The famous artist composed the song Cerrahpaşa, with lyrics written by his sister Nuran Bahçekapılı, in memory of his father.
"THE STORY OF CERRAHPAŞA"
Volkan Konak had explained the story of the unforgettable song Cerrahpaşa in an interview years ago with these words:
"We were truly very unlucky during that period. Between 2002 and 2004, I lost 7 of my relatives at a young age, 6 of them due to cancer. My sister had written the lyrics, and people were very moved when they sang it. We decided to put it on the album; I couldn't even bear to sing it, it reminded me of my father. I didn't know it would make such an impact. This song is written only once. This was an improvised song. In fact, a fellow artist friend told me, 'You made a 300-year-old song.'"
