German city temporarily changes its name for Taylor Swift
World-famous music star Taylor Swift will perform in the German city of Gelsenkirchen this month. The name of the city where Swift will perform has been temporarily changed to Swiftkirchen for this month.
Record-breaking artist Taylor Swift began the 18-city European leg of her Eras Tour in May.
The famous singer's first stop in Germany will be Gelsenkirchen, where she will perform on July 17, 18, and 19.
The name of the city, Gelsenkirchen, where the famous star will perform, has been temporarily changed to Swiftkirchen by officials to honor Taylor.
"A GREAT IDEA"
As the city of Gelsenkirchen prepares to host tens of thousands of people for Taylor Swift's concert, Aleshanee Westhoff, a Swift fan, presented a yellow sign featuring a drawing of Taylor and the name Swiftkirchen to the city's mayor on July 2.
Mayor Karin Welge accepted the proposal, saying, "A great idea."
Westhoff unveiled the sign bearing the city's new, albeit temporary, name yesterday.
