Good news for Harry Potter fans: Casting for the series begins
HBO has announced that the casting process for the Harry Potter TV series based on the book series will begin, and that the selection process will be conducted with inclusivity in mind.
The casting process for the TV series adaptation of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter book series, which was also adapted into films, is beginning. HBO announced that the casting will be conducted with inclusivity in mind. The statement indicated that characters will be determined with a 'commitment to inclusivity and diversity.' The announcement conveyed the message that applications for all roles are open without regard to 'ethnicity, gender, disability, race, or sexual orientation.'
According to BBC Turkish, an age limit has been set for the series' main characters: Harry Potter, Ron, and Hermione. Accordingly, to be cast for these roles, applicants must be between 9 and 11 years old as of April 2025. There is also a requirement to be a resident of the UK or Ireland. Those wishing to apply for the roles are asked to submit two videos. In one of these videos, they are asked to read 'a short poem or story,' and in the other, they are asked to talk about themselves.
'APPLY IN YOUR OWN ACCENT'
Children participating in the auditions were also encouraged to apply in their own accents. The series does not yet have a release date. However, the casting call notes that the series is planned to be filmed in the UK between 2025 and 2026. The series' writer, Francesca Gardiner, and director, Mark Mylod, previously worked on the award-winning series Succession.
It is also noted that the series will consist of seven seasons, with each season bringing one Harry Potter book to the screen. In the film series that brought the books to the cinema screen, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint played the three main roles.
Radcliffe, who played Harry Potter, had previously said that the series format excited him but added that he did not intend to appear in this production. Speaking to E! News, Daniel Radcliffe stated, “I’m happy to watch it from the sidelines like everyone else.”
